Telephone jammers will be introduced this year at the centres for medical entrance examination. This, officials said, will be done in coordination with the state police and revenue department to prevent irregularities. Last year, extensive use of bluetooth devices was reported at several medical entrance test centres.
"We will ensure that the sensitive centres of Kurnool, Kadapa and Tirupati are closely monitored. Security will be tight and police will guard these centres in mufti," said D N Reddy, vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University (JNTU).

The AP State Council for Higher Education on Saturday announced the sale of Eamcet application forms from February 14 to April 8 at head post offices, main Andhra Bank branches and eSeva centres. The last date for submission of filled-in application forms is March 16. However, the forms can also be obtained from the convener's office from April 9 to May 5 with payment of late fee. This year, Eamcet is scheduled to be held on May 8.
With the syllabus for this year's Eamcet remaining unchanged, officials said that they have made representations to the AICTE chairman to stick to the schedule announced for starting classes. The qualifying marks this year too stands at 25 per cent.
While candidates can submit applications with a late fine of Rs 5,000 till April 25, those submitting it by May 5 have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
Candidates submitting their forms with late fees (either with Rs 5,000 or Rs 10,000) will have to appear for the Eamcet only at centres in twin cities, unlike previous years.

From EAMCET 2011, students should have 50 percent score in their group subjects (mathematics, physics and chemistry for engineering) in Intermediate. SC / ST candidates need at least 45 per cent marks in group subjects for engineering admissions. The Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has kept minimum marks of 35 percent in Intermediate for admission to engineering colleges. The latest decision is likely to impact at least more than 40000 students in the state. Last year, around 40000 students who secured just 35 percent marks in Intermediate/ 10+2 had admitted in engineering colleges.
As per the latest directive of AICTE, the state government will not be allowed to continue admissions for students with 35 percent marks. The AICTE is claiming that the new rule shall improve quality of technical education. The Govt. of AP had written to AICTE early this month for an exemption from 50 percent marks rule.

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) authorities have indicated that the new method will be implemented in consultation with communication and intelligence wings of the police department. It is revealed by the police department that similar set and sequence of questions in each series of question papers also helped the cheaters in EAMCET 2010 medical examination. To avert any such misconduct in future, questions in each of the sets will be jumbled from Eamcet 2011. It is also most likely that the four optional answers for all the questions will be in different order in each set. This shall make students copy from one another impossible.

Ban on Ph.D. Through Distance Education in Andhra Pradesh
In a move that can impact the aspirants of pursuing Ph.D. while working, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has banned the Doctoral Courses through Distance Education offered by Universities in the state from the coming academic year. The decision has been taken in a meeting of vice-chancellors of 10 state universities with higher education minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha.
The move has its roots in recent irregularities that came to light in Ph.D. admissions of Dravidian University, Kuppam. The minister clarified that the decision to ban Ph.D. courses in Distance mode has been taken to maintain standards in Ph.D. education.
The state government has sensed the irregularities in Dravidian University in Chittoor district, which awarded about 8,000 Ph.Ds. to scholars in various disciplines in a short span of time. The Govt. has appointed a two-member committee to look into the irregularities in the Dravidian varsity and the committee also submitted its report recently. Damodar Narasimha has also said the department has approved the recruitment of 100 faculty staff in Andhra University.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Engineering Services Examination, 2011 from 14th May, 2011 for recruitment to the posts of Indian Engineering Service. The Examination will be held at various centres across the country.
Eligibility:
- Age : Not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years as on 1st August, 2011. The upper age is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the Notice.
- Educational Qualification: Candidate must hold a degree in Engineering or equivalent. Provided that a candidate applying for the posts of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Engineer Group A in Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing/Monitoring Organisation may possess M.Sc.Degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject. Candidates who qualify on the results of the written part of the examination will be summoned for personality test.
- Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the Regulations given in notice.
Fee: Rs.50/- for the candidates applying Online and Rs.100/- for the candidates applying Offline (for remote area candidates only) through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST/Female candidates are exempted from payment (OBC candidates required to pay full fee).
