50 percent in Inter compulsory for Engineering Admissions from 2011-12

Starting from this academic year (2011-12), those students secured at least 50 percent marks in Intermediate only will be eligible to get admission in Engineering courses. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has communicated concerned admission authorities in the state that 50 percent marks in Intermediate / 10+2 is a mandatory for admission in engineering colleges. JNTU, the organizing university for EAMCET and Engineering admissions has received instructions from AICTE in this regard.

From EAMCET 2011, students should have 50 percent score in their group subjects (mathematics, physics and chemistry for engineering) in Intermediate. SC / ST candidates need at least 45 per cent marks in group subjects for engineering admissions. The Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has kept minimum marks of 35 percent in Intermediate for admission to engineering colleges. The latest decision is likely to impact at least more than 40000 students in the state. Last year, around 40000 students who secured just 35 percent marks in Intermediate/ 10+2 had admitted in engineering colleges.

As per the latest directive of AICTE, the state government will not be allowed to continue admissions for students with 35 percent marks. The AICTE is claiming that the new rule shall improve quality of technical education. The Govt. of AP had written to AICTE early this month for an exemption from 50 percent marks rule.

Update on 30th December 2010: Dates of EAMCET 2011, EDCET 2011, ECET 2011, ICET 2011 have been announced by AP Higher Education Council today. All these CETs will be conducted by the universities those have taken the responsibilities for 2010-11. Dates of PGECET 2011, LAWCET 2011 will be released shortly. Detailed notifications with eligibility requirements, applications procedure, old papers, 2010 cut offs / last ranks in various colleges will be available on this blog. Earlier News: Dates for all common Entrance Tests such as EAMCET 2011, EDCET 2011, ICET 2011, PGECET 2011, LAWCET 2011, PGLCET 2011 will be finalised on 29th or 30th December 2010. CHairman of AP State Council of Higher Education has announced this and informed that CETs dates will be decided based on other exams like IIT JEE, AIEEE and other competitive examinations. It is most likely that EAMCET 2011 will be conducted during second week of May 2011. The Govt. also considering coduct of EAMCET 2011 in the First week of May 2011 itself if all the conditions are allowed.

Initially EAMCET 2011, ICET 2011 and Edcet 2011 dates will be announced. Dates of PGECET 2011, LAWCET 2011 will be confirmed later in the first or second week of January 2011. Detailed notifications of various CETs, application procedure and model / previous papers will be made available on this blog soon after the release of official notifications.

EAMCET 2010 Engineering

  Engineering Agriculture and Medicine Common EntranceTest (EAMCET) is an entranceexamination for admission in a number of professional courses like engineering, medical, pharmacy, biotechnology, veterinary etc in private/government colleges in Andhra Pradesh. EAMCET is conducted by the JawaharLal Nehru Technological University(JNTU) on behalf of Andhra Pradesh State Council of  Higher education(APSCHE).

For all the B.Tech/B.E. courses (except B.Tech(Biotechnology)), B.Pharma(MPC) & B.Sc (Commercial Agricultrure& Business Management (CA&BM).  there is a common entrance exam consisting of questions from Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. A large number of students from across the state of Andhra Pradesh appear for EAMCET every year and the competition is quite tough.
Eligibility Criteria:
A candidate should have cleared class 12th exams with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. For engineering & Pharmacy courses candidates should be atleast 16 years of age. For other courses candidates should be between 17-25 years of age on 31st December, 2010. EAMCET is only open for the candidates belonging to Andhra Pradesh.
Application Forms for EAMCET:
Candidates can apply for EAMCET either online/offline. Offline forms will be available at designated centers as mentioned in notification. Candidates can also apply online through the website www.apeamcet.org.
Important Dates(Tentative):
• Availability of Application Form: Mid February-March End, 2010
• Last Date of Submission of completed application form: March 3rd week, 2010
• Date of EAMCET Examination: Mid May, 2010

Syllabus of Examination:
