Reservation of Seats in University of Hyderabad
University of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh is a central university
established through an Act of Parliament by Govt. of India. The HCU,
as it is well known, offer high quality education and research. The
University follow all the reservations as prescribed by the University
Act and Constitution of India. 1. First, let us look at the
reservation of seats for OBC candidates in University of Hyderabad.
The University reserves 27 percent of total seats for OBC candidates.
This rule applies for all the courses and for OBC (non-creamy layer
category) candidates only. But the University does not offer any
relaxations in minimum qualifications for OBC candidates. There are no
exemptions from written tests and interviews. But OBC students are
offered 0 percent marks lower than the original cut off marks.
Candidates claiming relaxation in cut off marks have to submit a copy
of their reservation status.

2. Reservation of seats for SC and ST candidates: The Hyderabad
Central University reserves 15 percent of seats in each course for
Scheduled Castes (SC) and another 7.5 percent will be reserved for
Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories. These candidates have to submit
relevant caste certificate issued by the concerned authority. The
University also conducts remedial courses in English and also in other
subjects for these candidates depending on their requirements.
University of Hyderabad offer exemptions in qualifying marks for SC
and ST categories. For admission to all Post Graduate Coourses in HCU
such as MA., M.Sc., MCA, MFA., MPA., Advanced P.G. Diploma; PG Diploma
Courses and 5-Year Integrated Masters Degree Courses. They need to get
pass marks in qualifying examination. For admission to M.Phil, M.Tech,
and Ph.D progrmmes, SC and ST candidates will get a relaxation of 5
percent marks in the minimum eligibility condition.

3. Reservation for differently abled (physically challenged)
candidates: 3 percent of total seats in all the programmes will be
reserved for the physically challenged students. The candidates with
minimum degree of disability to the extent of 40 percent and provided
that the disability does not come in the way of pursuing the course
will be considered. This reservation is distributed to three sub
categories, visually challenged (VH), hearing impaired and
orthopedically handicapped (OH) with one percentage for each category.
There will be no exemption from entrance examination and interviews.
But visually challenged candidates will get and extra time of 20
minutes for two hour question papers in the entrance examination. The
University will also provide scribes for visually handicapped
students.

4. Reservation of seats to the wards or dependents of Defence
personnel: The HCU provides reservations for wards of defence
personnel also. Up to 5 percent of seats on the approved intake in all
courses are provided as supernumerary seats for this category. They
have to appear for the entrance examination an also should provide
relevant certificate issued by concerned authority.

5. Reservations for Union Territories and North-Eastern States: Have a
visit to University of Hyderabad, you will be surprised to see large
number of students from North Eastern States such as Manipur, Assam,
Nagaland etc. The university reserves one seat in each department for
the candidates from UT and North East States. These are Tripura,
Manipur, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mizoram, Sikkim, Arunachal
Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Nagaland, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Applications
of these candidates should be routed through the respective
Directorate of Higher Education of the UT or NE state. The HCU also
provide weightage for the candidates with distinction in sports and
cultural activities.
